Nerds for Nerds

This was a piece that I wrote a couple of weeks ago for my AP lang class. The assignment was basically eat some nerds and use the 5 senses to describe them. This is what I came up with and I hope you like it. Comment Please! I speak on behalf of all the nerds. The dorky nerds, the cool nerds, the hipster nerds, and the edible nerds. Yes, we wear glasses and are socially awkward but there is no need to judge. We do not care if we snort louder than the average person, or if our high socks are apparently “out of style.” You can make fun of us all you want, because we take pride in who we are; but you do not make fun of the nerd candies. They are our voice, our mascot, our pride and joy; they let the nerd name become a world-wide phenomenon. We are like these delectable nerds too, both inside and out. They may look like amusty old beat-up punching bag with bumps, lumps, and deformities. But we have these same issues upon our faces. They may look disturbing to some people, but hey, our pimples are slimy and have a harsh pink coloring too. However, when you mess with Wonka’s wonderful nerd candies, you mess with us. These are our favorite fruity, colorful, snacks and they give us nerds the motivation to be our socially awkward selves. Some people may call us smarties but we do not appreciate this nickname one bit. Smarties are what the druggies use to pretend to smoke, as they puff sugary powdered circles into the air. That is not a part of our nerdy reputation at all. Nerds are very fragile like intricate glass crystals, and can shatter under extreme pressures. We possess a hard outer exterior of armor to block all the cruel words we receive at school. But if you penetrate our outer shell, you will destroy us with one breathe. Others may say that we are stuck up and sour like pies without sugar. But that is just because we work hard for what we want to achieve, while others spend their time eating pies. We nerds are interesting people, but once you get to know us on a deeper level, you will truly understand, and appreciate the fun flavor that we add to people’s lives.
